Volunteers have always been at the heart of Children's. The volunteering tradition began at Children's in 1917 when University of Washington student volunteers brought enthusiasm and vigor to the wards. Mission Statement :
To contribute to the improvement of quality of life of the African population through prevention and control of Substance Abuse related problems (Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs). Child abuse destroys. It damages self-esteem, diminishes dignity, and erodes the strength of the family. Children should be treated with respect and protected from abuse. For The Child meets this challenge by providing both comprehensive child abuse treatment and family focused mental health care, counseling, and therapy to strengthen families and provide the tools of healing to children.
Volunteer Abuse :

The Eccasa vision is a community without domestic violence so that every home is a safe haven for the family it Eccasa. The Eccasa mission is to help adult and child victims and survivors of domestic violence through safety, intervention, and support; to educate the public about domestic violence; and to advocate for social change against domestic violence.

Many volunteer organizations take on the responsibility of caring for children. Unfortunately many of these agencies do not properly screen the volunteers as a result leave vulnerable children in the hands of sexual predators. If you or a child you know was abused while under the care of a volunteer organization, you deserve the opportunity to assert your rights against an abuser and the institution that housed the abuse. At Eccasa we advocate on behalf of victims of sexual abuse committed by volunteers at organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army, Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts, Little League, and the Big Brother program.

Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse is one form of child abuse. It includes a wide range of actions between a child and an adult or older child. Often these involve body contact, but not always. Exposing one's genitals to children or pressuring them for sex is sexual abuse. Using a child for pornography is also sexual abuse. Most sexual abusers know the child they abuse. They may be family friends, neighbors or babysitters. About one-third of abusers are related to the child. Most abusers are men. If you think a child may have been abused, it's important to report it.

At the Eccasa for Abused Women & Children, we are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of our volunteers. Their endless contributions of time and energy inspire us to continue our work bringing about hope and change for thousands of victims of domestic violence every year.
